180 Flower Farm (open Summer 2022)

Why is 180 Degree Farm developing therapeutic gardens?

180 Degree Farm provides nutrient dense, organic food to the most cancer fighters in our community.  However, we have the ability to provide even more!  We have a beautiful, plant filled, natural environment.  This natural environment is full of phytoncides – a plant producing chemical which is antibacterial and antifungal.  When we surround ourselves and breathe in these plant chemicals, our natural immune system reacts by producing white blood cells, or natural killer cells.  NK cells eliminate tumor and virus-infected cells.

There’s more…studies show that just 20 minutes of exposure to nature also increases production of anti-cancer proteins and reduces anxiety, stress and depression.  A visit once a month (aka: a green prescription) will maintain a consistent production of NK cells and improve your mental health as well.

So of course it makes sense for 180 Farm to provide another way for cancer patients to fight their disease and recover from treatment.  That's what we do!

Sources: fs.usda.gov, dec.ny.gov, Dr. Khan (Leeds, UK) Types of phytoncides: α-pinene, d-limonene, β-pinene, sabinene, myrcene, camphene
